Küre Mountains National Park
Küre Mountains, one of the largest forested areas of Türkiye, hosting many caves and canyons, extends approximately 300 kilometers in the west of the Black Sea Region in an east-west direction parallel to the Black Sea. Küre Mountains National Park includes an important part of Küre Mountains. Approximately half of the national park is within the borders of Kastamonu and half within the borders of Bartın. The national park is one of the world's most inventoried national parks and contains almost 100 caves.
The Küre Mountains National Park, covering an area of 37 hectares, has been chosen by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) as one of the 100 hot spots on the earth and nine hot spots in Türkiye that need urgent protection. This is due to the fact that the national park is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. In the Küre Mountains, 33 of the 637 plant species and 40 of 132 mammal animals are endemic species. The mountains are also home to 129 different bird species.
This huge natural habitat has many walking routes that are completely within nature. Together with alternate trails, the 482 kilometers of walking trails, marked according to international standards and consisting of 36 main tracks, reach 762 kilometers. The trails have different levels of difficulty, and every nature lover can find a route to his or her level.
In the Küre Mountains National Park, you can go for daily walks or longer walks over several days. The routes in the national park are linked to the routes in the Yenice Forests and the Independence Trail.
There are many options for accommodation on the routes the route passes. In addition to small hotels and hostels, it is possible to set up tents and stay in many camping areas on the trail. Remember that the best time to go trekking in the Küre Mountains National Park is between May and November. The region is very cold during the winter.
