    Eco Trails Hiking Routes

At the easternmost of the Mediterranean, the southernmost of the Aegean Sea, at the junction point of Carian and Lycian Civilizations, here is a region where the deep history dance together with green and blue. A heaven on earth between Marmaris and Fethiye, hosted by Köyceğiz, Ortaca, and Dalaman districts. The valleys of the region between the mountain range, which extend upright to the sea has settlements for about three thousand years.

Kaunas, the last major city in the southern part of Caria, and Telmessos, the massive city on the north-west border of Lycia, play a role in drawing the boundaries of this region. Between these two great ancient cities, these are many relatively smaller ancient cities: Pisilis, Lydae, Lissa, Kalynda, Krya, Daedala, Hippokome, Oktapolis.

The 470-km long hiking trails waymarked with yellow signposts and red-and-white paint stripes consist of Coastal Route, Middle Route and Northern Route, all interconnected at various locations, linking the Carian Trail in the east to the Fethiye Hiking Routes and the Lycian Way in the east. The majority of the trails are on path; where there are no alternatives, earth roads are used. Trails in and out of cities and villages are on tarmac. They are designed such that hikers could start at any location and in any direction.

While the Coastal Route present seascapes-lagoons and wetlands-archeology-wildlife as the main local values, the Northern Route brings forward the rural life-mountainous sections-rivers and canyons. Relatively flat and easier Middle Route, which connects the three towns, passes through the protected endemic Sweetgum forests, thermal springs and ancient remains.
